Athea 1-07 Oola 2-11
On March 19th 2016 we played our first Division 2 league match against Oola the current Intermediate Champions in Mountcollins. The scoreline at the finish was 2:11 to 1:07 in favour of the East Limerick men. A late goal from Oola made the scoreline look worse than was the difference between the two teams on the day. The benefits of coming up against stronger teams in the league should stand to us come championship time.
Athea opened the scoring inside the first few minutes when Gerard Ahern tapped over a close range free after Tommy Quaid had been fouled. For the next twenty minutes it was all Oola as they scored a goal and four points to take control of the match. Athea came back into the game when Jamie Collins scored a goal after great work by James Ryan. Gerard Ahern converted his second free of the match and a great point by Darren Murphy left just a point between the teams. Oola raised the white flag just before the break to leave the half time score Athea 1-03 Oola 1-05.
We started the second half brightly when Jamie Collins and Gerard Ahern both scored points but the opposition scored six unanswered points to put the match beyond doubt. Points for Gerard Ahern and Pa Chawke closed the gap but a goal for Oola late on left the final score Athea 1-07 Oola 2-11.

On March 26th 2016, we met Adare on the Astro pitch in Mick Neville Park.
We led by 0:05 to 0:02 at halftime in very testing conditions with strong winds and hail showers. The second half proved a more difficult challenge when Adare found their shooting boots and racked up 1:09 to our 0:02.
So after two matches we have no points on the board but have had a taste of playing at a higher level than last year.
The final score was Adare 1:11 0:07 Athea.
It looks like more hard work is needed particularly when it comes to taking our scoring opportunities.
