Our new manager Pat Higgins got off to a winning start in Division 3 of the County League in Mungret on Sunday March 8th 2015 with a three point win over the home team in the opening game of the League campaign.
On a sunny spring day we got off to a good start with early points however were punished by a Mungret goal against the run of play which levelled matters up. Our lack of match practice was evident as we found scores very hard to come by whilst still keeping the umpires busy for the wrong reasons.
There were a number of positives to be taken out of the game in particular in the defence where we kept things very tight. A standout performance given by Raymond Brouder helped to keep Mungret scoreless in the second half. Tom Collins gave an assured performance at Centre Half Back and made some timely interceptions. Neilus Hunt and Jamie Collins at midfield gave a good account of themselves.
However in the forward line we lacked composure and clocked up far too many wides with poor shot selection and hurried efforts.
Gerard Ahern hit the cross bar with 5 mins to go when a goal looked certain. Still our side created plenty of chances and with a few more games should be able to convert more and more opportunities.
