Our U21s played out a draw with Rathkeale/Cappagh in the quarter final of the U21 premier championship in Mick Neville Park on Friday night last (December 5th 2014) . We started brightly when Matthew Brouder tapped over the opening score of the game. Rathkeale/Cappagh soon got into their stride and scored three unanswered and we had to wait until the twenty second minute of the half before we got our second score thanks to a great point by Pa Delee.
The opposition restored their two point advantage with a well taken point but points from Stephen Cahill, Kevin Murphy and Shane Mulvihill gave us a one point lead at the break, Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 0-05 Rathkeale/Cappagh 0-04. The score of the game came early in the second half when Kevin Murphy scored a cracker of a goal after great work by Stephen Cahill. Rathkeale/Cappagh came back and scored three points to leave just one between the team.
The Athea Mountcollins amalgamation stepped up a gear, three points from the boot of Pa Delee and one from Matthew Brouder gave us a five point lead with ten minutes remaining and we looked like heading into the semi-final. The opposition had other ideas and came back into the game scoring five points without reply and the match ended in a draw. The reply is on this Friday night in Mick Neville Park at 8.30pm.
